Arsenal will be taking a keen interest in the Super Bowl, with one of the San Francisco 49ers stars a self-confessed Gooner.

Christian McCaffrey is one of the most valuable players in the NFL, and is also a huge admirer of Mikel Arteta's side.

McCaffrey, who plays for Super Bowl-bound San Francisco 49ers as a running back, previously admitted he is an Arsenal fan.

It all came about in fact when Unai Emery was at the helm, during Arsenal's 2019 pre-season trip to the USA.

The Gunners took part in the International Champions Cup and avoided defeats against Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, and Real Madrid.

After the 3-0 victory over Fiorentina, McCaffrey said: "Arsenal fans, it's official. A huge announcement from me, Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers running back, I'm officially a Gooner!"

The 49ers beat Detroit on Sunday to book a place in Super Bowl LVIII - and no doubt the Gunners will be cheering on arguably one of their most famous fans.

McCaffrey, who is named as one of the finalists for this year's MVP award, is a huge deal in the sport and his abilities have even left NBA icon LeBron James stunned.

James previously took to X, formerly Twitter, posting: "CMC, you’re ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! My GOODNESS", due to the stars performances.

The MVP winner will be announced on February 8, and the 27-year-old is the most likely challenger to favourite Lamar Jackson.
