Barry Robson reacts to Aberdeen FC Ultras protest as boss tells diehards 'I'm one of you'
The Pittodrie manager has assured fed- up fans he gets their frustration over results and performances that have club languishing in eighth.
Barry Robson has responded to Aberdeen fans staging a Pittodrie protest calling for him to be sacked by telling them he's one of their own and if anyone gets it, he does.
The Dons fell 19 points behind third placed Hearts after a 2-0 Tynecastle defeat at the weekend. Robson now faces a massive game at home to Dundee, managed by former Aberdeen No.2 Tony Docherty, on Tuesday night. Lose to the Dark Blues and calls for Robson to get his jotters will only grow louder. Ultras headed to Pittodrie after the weekend defeat to hang a "Robson Out" banner, with fans fed-up and looking for chairman Dave Cormack to make a change.
But Robson laid out his Dandy credentials and assured the punters he feels it just as much as them, having been a Red his whole life. He said: "That's not my focus. I can only control what I can and that is our players and the staff.
"The most important thing is that we start the game well tomorrow as the fans they will come with us here. They have been great with me and know I am an Aberdeen fan who comes from the area. I just want to win games for them.
"When you’re at a big football club, you’ve got an expectation here. I’ve been at the football club a long time and I’ve been a fan of this football club my whole life. I’m from the area and if anyone understands then I understand.
"All I want to do is to win football matches and to let the fans go home happy. As I said, we will go out there tomorrow and we will try and win the game for the fans and they will get behind us.
"We just need to be on the front foot, be positive, go and bring our talents to the game. If you think of the weekend, there was a lot to like about us for about 60 minutes, but we need to put on for 90 minutes. If we do that we give ourselves every opportunity.
"We want to perform well and we want to win games. All we need to do is concentrate and if we get on the front foot and we start the game well the fans will always back us here.
"The fans have been great with me since I’ve been here. They really have. The players, myself, my staff, we appreciate that. We need to give back to them and we need to make sure that we win games. I get their frustrations, I understand that and we just have to make sure that we can perform and win games."
