RANGERS have completed the signing of winger Oscar Cortes from Lens.

The Colombian international has moved on loan to Ibrox for the rest of the season.

There is also an option for the club to buy their new No16 in the summer.

Speaking to the club's website, he said:  “I am very honoured and privileged to be signing for Rangers.

“I have heard a lot about the history and tradition of Rangers, and I have had positive conversations with the manager who said I can help the team reach their goals this season.

“I am really excited to join up with my teammates and hopefully exciting the fans with my style of play.”

Highly-rated Cortes made the switch to France from Millonarios in his homeland last summer for a fee in the region of £4m.

But after playing mostly for Lens’ B team in the first half of the season, he has been allowed to join up with Philippe Clement’s squad until the end of the season.

The Belgian added: “I am really delighted to add Oscar to our squad.

“Our discussions have been really positive, and I believe he will be a big asset to the squad as we fight across three fronts for the remainder of this season.

“Oscar is really enthusiastic about our aims and ambitions as a team, and his skillset will provide welcome competition to our forward line.”

Capable of playing wide or behind the strikers, the 20-year-old is following in the footsteps of another Colombian who starred at Rangers.

Alfredo Morelos took his leave from Ibrox in the summer after six years in which he became the club’s record European goalscorer and a cult hero among the fans.

Now Cortes will be hoping he can make a similar impact in the months ahead.

Clement was keen to add to his forward options with Abdallah Sima likely to sit out the next two to three months with a thigh injury.

Cortes hasn’t played much since moving to France but has managed a goal and an assist in just four Ligue 1 appearances.

He was ineligible for their Champions League campaign, playing more often for Lens B team in the French third tier.

More recently he has been involved with Colombia’s under-23 side, playing Olympic qualifiers against Ecuador and Brazil.

South American football expert, Nathan Joyes, reckoned Rangers would have a great signing on their hands - if the player can settle.

He wrote on X/Twitter: “Limited minutes in France, but plenty to like from his time at Millonarios.

“Direct, huge stride, good with his feet and has an eye for goal.

"Hopefully he settles in Scotland.”
