Ex-Arsenal star reveals he had 'damn legendary' clause inserted into his contract
Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner ended his playing career at hometown club FC Copenhagen, where he had to agree some to unusual contract demands
Nicklas Bendtner has recalled the bizarre clauses he had inserted into the final contract of his career.
The enigmatic striker enjoyed an eventful career which started at Arsenal in the mid-2000s and ended in his home country with FC Copenhagen. Following spells at Nottingham Forest and Rosenberg in Norway, the Dane made an emotional return to the club he played for in his childhood, prior to being snapped up by the Gunners.
Signing Bendtner, albeit on the short-term deal, was a major coup for Copenhagen, who were keen to ensure they got the maximum possible value out of the marque signing – so much so that they inserted some novel clauses into his contract.

At the time, in 2019, his agent told him: “You must accept that it must be stated in the contract that from now until the New Year you must not drink alcohol and you must not ski and things like that.”
Bendtner, who is the subject of the documentary about his career, has recently recalled that deal. He said: “I don't think everyone has it in the contract. Damn legendary.”

The documentary, Nicklas Bendtner – The Portait, will be released as a series in three episodes on Viaplay later this month.
The 36-year-old says he wants to tell the “true story” of his life, warts and all. He said: "Many sports documentaries are just a big glossy picture. Then you hear about adultery on the side or an extra child, or I don't know what the hell, and it never comes up.
“But then you never get the opportunity to really understand that person. Then it might as well be fiction. I want to tell the true story. It must be as it was.”
