John Eustace in line for Championship job and swift Birmingham City return
Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes an update on John Eustace's hunt for a new job
Former Birmingham City boss John Eustace could be in line to return to St Andrew’s on Tuesday - as manager of Blackburn Rovers.
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Eustace has been identified as the frontrunner to replace Jon Dahl Tomasson in the Rovers hotseat if the Dane departs Ewood Park. Tomasson is reportedly considering his future after Blackburn’s embarrassing transfer gaffe involving Duncan Maguire.
USA international Maguire was announced by Blackburn as a deadline day loan signing from Orlando City, with a view to a permanent transfer, but the EFL haven’t ratified the deal because the paperwork wasn’t submitted on time. Tomasson wasn’t best pleased with the situation and claimed he was prevented from speaking to the media by club officials last week.
It was reported on Wednesday that Tomasson will leave Blackburn, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Rovers are said to be drawing up a list of replacements, though, and Eustace is at the top of it.

The 44-year-old has been out of work since being unceremoniously sacked by Blues in October and replaced by Wayne Rooney. Eustace was linked with posts at Millwall and Stoke City before they were filled by Joe Edwards and Steven Schumacher respectively.
If Eustace is named Blackburn boss, he will make a swift return to St Andrew’s. Rovers - who haven’t won in their last eight Championship games - play Blues in B9 on Tuesday.
