Sean Dyche insists that top scorer Abdoulaye Doucoure is “making good progress” even though Everton’s top scorer will not be available to play against Manchester City.

Doucoure, who has netted six goals this season and 11 since Dyche took charge of Everton a year ago, has only played in one of his side’s last 10 matches since going off with a hamstring injury at half-time in the game at Burnley – a 2-0 victory and the Blues’ last Premier League win – on December 16. The 31-year-old returned for the goalless draw at home to Aston Villa on January 14 but has been sidelined again since with a fresh hamstring issue in his other leg.

Asked about player fitness for his side’s trip to the Etihad on Saturday to face Pep Guardiola’s Premier League, European and World champions, Dyche said: “Not Douc, not Danjuma, not Andre Gomes, he won’t be back. On a better note, obviously Youngy continues to get fully fit, Seamus will have had a full week’s training with the team which is good.

“Amadou has been out on the grass today, so he gets back involved and we’ll pick the team accordingly. There are better signs of progress I’d say from the injured players.

“Doucs is on the grass – not with us – but he’s making good progress.”
