Rangers hero Gennaro Gattuso ‘frontrunner for manager job’ – just four months into current role at Euro giants

It's a shock development as the club already have a manager in the dugout

GENNARO GATTUSO has emerged as a surprise frontrunner for a Serie A manager job - just four months after taking over at Marseille.

The Rangers legend, 46, was appointed the French club's new boss in September but he has struggled in Ligue 1 so far.

He has won just nine games out of 21 in all competitions so far, but it hasn't stopped him from attracting interest from another European club.

He is reportedly the leading candidate to take over from Ivan Juric at Torino, who shockingly revealed this week that he could walk away from the club at the end of the season.

That's if they fail to qualify for European football next season.

Torino sit 10th in the Serie A and just four points behind fifth place Bologna.

Speaking in a press conference this week, he said: “If I don’t go to Europe, what am I doing here? Do I get more money? If I go to Europe, I’ll talk to myself, and we’ll think about it.

“Otherwise, it means that being left apart is a great result because we have great teams ahead of us, but what am I doing here without Europe?

“I’ll take the money and then maybe they’ll send me home…But that’s not what I want. We shouldn’t get by.

“My thought is this, with the managers and the president we are fine, the Filadelfia is beautiful, we’ve put everything in.

“We’ve done an extraordinary job. If we go to Europe, I’ll stay at Toro. Otherwise, I’ll leave.”

Torino chiefs are now planning ahead for the potential eventuality that Juric does depart at the end of the campaign.

The Turin club are considering their options...and Gattuso is high up on their radar.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano - who claims the ex-Light Blues midfielder is "one of the most appreciated managers on Torino's shortlist".

There i has been no discussion between the two clubs as of yet as it all depends on Juric's decision at the end of the season.

Gattuso has managed at several clubs in his homeland Italy since leaving his first dugout role at Sion in Switzerland in 2013.

He left Sion to take over at Palermo before also taking the hot-seat at Pisa, AC Milan's youth teams, AC Milan's first team and Napoli.

He also spent time at OFI Crete in Greece in 2014 and was sacked by Valencia in January 2023.

Gattuso spent a year at Ibrox between 1997 and 1998 before leaving to join Salernitana for £4million.
