Ex-Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst reveals REAL reason he rejected manager return and says public explanation was wrong

The Dutchman has had plenty of options on the table following his Ibrox axe in November 2022

FORMER Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed the real reason he turned down the chance to return to management with Besiktas....he had a bad feeling about the club.

The Dutch coach was sacked by Rangers in November 2022, but has refused offers from other clubs to return to management since then.

He was offered a route back to the dugout last month

He looked certain to take charge at Turkish side Besiktas, but it was widely reported he turned it down because NAC Breda would not allow his former assistant Jean-Paul van Gastel to leave as manager to go with van Bronckhorst to Istanbul.

However, van Bronckhorst has insisted it was his decision to reject the offer.

And he's hinted he may never return to management after his experience at Ibrox, where he led Rangers to a Europa League Final six months before he was axed.

He said: "It's true I had offers from a few clubs and one of them became public.

"But there was no one team that made me feel like I wanted to start again.

"I kept reading that the reason I didn't go was because I could not get the assistant manager I wanted. But several coaches wanted to join me.

"When a club is interested you have to delve into everything - the state of the club, their position and the players of course.

"And ultimately, you arrive at a total picture of a club where you get the feeling that you want to get involved in or not. The latter was the case with me.

"For me, it was not the time to join and I am not looking for a club either.

"I am very happy with how life is now, although if there is a nice club, I always want to listen to what they have to say."
