Donny van de Beek issue explained after Manchester United loanee's embarrassing substitution
Manchester United's midfielder Donny van de Beek has suffered a difficult start to life at his new club Eintracht Frankfurt after joining them on loan in January
Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek was substituted on and then off again in Eintracht Frankfurt's 1-1 draw with VfL Bochum.
The Dutch midfielder came on for the injured Hugo Larsson after 21 minutes during the clash on Saturday. However, unlike most substitutes, he was not able to continue for the remainder of the game with Frankfurt choosing to replace him for Sebastian Rode with six minutes of normal time left.
After the match, Frankfurt's boss Dino Toppmoller confirmed the substitution was not due to injury or Van de Beek's performance on the pitch. He explained to Liga Insider: "Unfortunately, I had to replace Donny again.

"This is because we knew he wouldn’t be able to keep up the power for 70 minutes." Sadly for Van de Beek, this was yet another setback in what has been an awful few years for the 26-year-old.
When Van de Beek left Erik ten Hag's Ajax, his stock was at its highest. However, despite managerial changes and system alterations, the now 26-year-old has been unable to hold down a place in the first team.
Throughout his four-year stint at Old Trafford, Van de Beek managed just 62 appearances before being loaned out by Ten Hag in January. It is expected Van de Beek shall leave United permanently in the summer as he aims to get his career back on track.
His road to redemption has not started brilliantly though. He has made just four appearances since his winter move and has not set the world alight during this period.
Frankfurt chose to leave Van de Beek out of their recent Europa Conference League squad list.
