Celtic’s Korean stars face international sweat after Jurgen Klinsmann SACKED after Asian Cup flop

A summit was held last night to discuss the manager's future in the hot-seat

JURGEN KLINSMANN has been dramatically sacked as South Korea manager just 12 months after taking charge.

The Bayern Munich and Germany legend was appointed head coach in February last year, but he has been shown the door following the nation's disappointing display at the Asian Cup.

He was handed a three-and-a-half year deal, with his contract set to run until the 2026 World Cup,

But after the nation crashed out of the Asian Cup in the semi-final earlier this month, South Korea chiefs have made their decision.

The nation went in to the competition as heavy favourites to go all the way - along with Japan - but they were pipped by 70th ranked Jordan, who lifted the trophy after beating Qatar in the final.

South Korea were beaten 2-0 after knocking out Australia and Saudi Arabia in the previous rounds.

Celtic duo Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-Jun have never seen their country win the tournament, with their last triumph coming 64 years ago in 1960.

Now the pair will face an international sweat to see who will be taking over from Klinsmann after the news of his axe was confirmed this morning.

South Korea FA president Chung Mong-gyu and other board members arranged a summit last night to discuss the future of Klinsmann after the shock exit from the Asian Cup.

They came to the decision to sack the football legend after just 12 months into the role

In a statement released to the public, Hwangbo Kwan of the KFA said: "We've reached a consensus that Klinsmann cannot exercise his leadership as national team head coach for various reasons and that a change of leadership is necessary."

Hoops stars Oh and Yang never managed to start a game in the competition but they both provided options off the bench.
