Barry Ferguson reckons Kemar Roofe faces one final shot at salvaging his Rangers career.

The striker has been hampered by injuries during his time in Glasgow ever since Steven Gerrard shelled out big money to bring him to Ibrox from Anderlecht. When he has been on the park he has delivered in big moments including this season in the Europa League as he scored the winning goal away in Seville at Real Betis to secure top spot in the section and direct entry to the last 16 of the competition.

But he's been unable to keep himself consistently fit. Philippe Clement has hardly had the opportunity to call on him and with Danilo also out long-term, and it means Cyriel Dessers and January recruit Fabio Silva have been carrying the load for the Light Blues. Roofe was back out on the training pitch as he bids to get himself back into match action with Rangers and Celtic fighting it out for the Scottish Premiership crown. They are locked on points and goal difference with 13 games to play while the Ibrox men also are competing in the Scottish Cup and Europe after winning the League Cup earlier this year.

Ferguson is in no doubt about the qualities Roofe has in his locker and believes he could be a big player if they can get minutes out of him in the run in. He reckons there is NOBODY better than the hitman in the box when it comes to needing an important goal.

He told Go Radio: "Listen, his Rangers career has been hampered by injury. You know my thoughts on Kemar Roofe. I think he is a very good centre-forward. No doubt about it, but it is just keeping him fit.

"This is probably his last go at salvaging his Rangers career for the run in. If you do get him back fit I think he could be a big player. I am not saying starting because Dessers is doing really well. His form has picked up. Fabio Silva is scoring a few goals now. But if you need to get a goal, there is nobody better than Kemar Roofe. He is a predator inside the box."

Fellow pundit Stephen McGinn added: "What they might do Rangers is look if he can do what he did in the first half of this season. Get him fit enough as an option in one of those big games. His goal in Betis made the club a lot of money. Can they just get one last tune out of Kemar Roofe?"
