Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville admitted he embarrassed himself on Sunday afternoon when meeting Harry Styles and not realising who he was.

The musician who earned his fame thanks to competing on the X-Factor as a member of One Direction before launching a successful solo career, was in attendance at Kenilworth Road on Sunday afternoon to witness the Reds' victory over the Hatters. Before kick-off, the 30-year-old was invited into the Sky Sports Super Sunday studio to meet the panel of David Jones, Tom Lockyer, Curtis Davies and Jamie Redknapp.

During the game, Neville revealed he also met Styles but made a surprising mistake. During commentary duty in the second half, the cameras panned to the singer in the directors' box with Luton Town's director of professional football Mick Harford.

Commenting on the duo, Peter Drury said: "Harry Styles with Mick Harford, there's a juxtaposition of people. It's Luton who have demonstrated the Dunkirk spirit."

To which, Neville replied: "He walked into the studio before the game, because he looked so different and so smart he looked like a football director and I did not recognise him. I was embarrassed."

Styles was in attendance this afternoon as he is a boyhood United supporter. Therefore he would have been delighted inside seven minutes as Rasmus Hojlund's brace saw the Reds hit the front.

Carlton Morris hit back with a header in the 14th minute but it was merely a consolation. United's fourth Premier League win in a row has moved them to within five points of the top four.
