Worst tackles in Premier League history – Mason Holgate, Ben Thatcher and Martin Taylor
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT - Sheffield United defender Mason Holgate has joined some unwanted company after committing one of the worst fouls Premier League fans have witnessed

Mason Holgate's short-term stay at Sheffield United may be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
The Blades took another worrying turn towards relegation on Sunday after suffering a 5-0 evisceration at home to Brighton. And Holgate - on loan from Everton - lasted just nine minutes before he was sent off for one of the worst challenges witnessed in recent Premier League history.
In fact, the 27-year-old's knee-high scissor attempt was put up there with the worst ever witnessed in England's top flight by some fans. That can only mean one thing as Daily Star Sport looks back through the Premier League chronicles to examine which challenges can hold a candle to Holgate's hellish entry.
1. Mason Holgate on Kaoru Mitoma
An instant addition to the Premier League's Hall of Infamy when it comes to mistimed challenges, Holgate had the audacity to be surprised when Stuart Attwell showed him a red card at Bramall Lane. The only thing more surprising than the knee-high attempt itself was the fact the referee required a VAR inspection to alter his initial yellow decision

If there were ever a Premier League player who had a reputation as "that type," Michael Brown was it.
Man United ace Ryan Giggs was fortunate to escape injury after taking a totally unnecessary two-footed lunge from the Fulham man straight to his knee in August 2006. Brown somehow got away with just a yellow for the shocking stamp (which took place with the ball rolling out of play) - and it wasn't an isolated incident.

Newcastle and Everton were involved in a legal battle over compensation Victor Anichebe was owed due to the injury he suffered thanks to the boots of Kevin Nolan. The Nigerian was out for a lengthy spell and required two knee surgeries thanks to the Englishman's shockingly poor attempt in February 2009, though Nolan had some form in the terrible tackle department.
