Jurgen Klopp left in stitches after ex-Birmingham City player’s son makes Liverpool debut
Luton Town manager Rob Edwards successfully managed to make us all feel old after an ex-Birmingham City player's son debuted for Liverpool on Wednesday night
The son of former Birmingham City midfielder Neil Danns made his Premier League debut for Liverpool last night against Luton Town.
Jayden Danns was a late substitute in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Luton and played his part in Harvey Elliott’s fourth goal in stoppage time. He only turned 18 in January but earned a call-up to Liverpool’s first team to bolster their depleted forward line following injuries to Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez.
His father, Neil Danns, only finished playing in 2021 after a career which spanned almost two decades and 14 different clubs, one of which was Blues. Dann senior joined Blues from Colchester United in the summer of 2006 and made 39 appearances before moving to Crystal Palace 18 months later. He only made five appearances in the Premier League for Blues and Blackburn Rovers combined.
Luton manager Rob Edwards is the same age as Danns senior, 41, and battled against him during their playing days. And he made that point during a conversation with Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp and Danns junior at full-time.

Interrupting an embrace between Klopp and Danns at Anfield, Edwards joked: “I played against your dad!” The discussion was captured on live television and Klopp was left in hysterics.
Neil Danns is believed to have been in the stands at Anfield to watch his son’s big moment. The Liverpudlian now coaches back in his home city with Tranmere Rovers.
