The duo were arrested and released without charge in December 2022 as police probed alleged suspicious betting patterns.

Neighbours at Mandurah City striker Griffiths' old home in Bothwell described 'chaotic' scenes as he was hauled in for questioning in an early morning police raid.

But the forward - now based in Australia - has no further questions to answer as cops and the Procurator Fiscal wrapped up the investigation with no further action taken.

A force spokesman confirmed: "Police Scotland has concluded its investigation into the alleged gambling incidents within sport and, in consultation with the Procurator Fiscal, there will be no further police action."

A third man was also arrested and questioned after bookies flagged concerns over a match between Dundee and Hearts in 2021.

Both Griffiths and McGowan were booked by ref Willie Collum, and Hearts won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jamie Walker.

But when the arrests followed almost a year later Dundee said they would assist with enquiries.

A statement released at the time read: "Dundee Football Club are aware of the ongoing Police Scotland investigation as reported in the media this morning.

"The club will support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time."

A total of three properties were raided - including Griffiths' in Bothwell and others in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian and Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

Leigh Griffith on target in Mandurah City final win

Neighbours claimed more than 10 officers swarmed Griffiths' luxury pad at 7am and stayed on the scene for more than two hours.

One said: "It was still dark and the police were using torches. Whatever they were doing, they weren't discreet about it.

"It was chaotic. They were still there when people were going to work."

But now cops have concluded their investigation with no more action for any of the trio.

The striker moved to Australia a short while after the early morning drama and hooked up with another ex-Dark Blue forward - John Baird - at Mandurah City.

He has signed a permanent playing and coaching role with the club, taking kids Rhys and Jacob Down Under as well as long-term partner Caitlyn Melville.

The couple announced their engagement earlier this year.

McGowan - who has played for Celtic and Morton in the past - now plays at League One Cove Rangers.
