Sheffield FC fume about 'offensive' way Sheffield United are referenced on Sky Sports
Sheffield United's presence in the Premier League makes them one of the country's biggest teams, but they are certainly not the only Sheffield based team in England
Sheffield Football Club were left furious after neighbourly rivals Sheffield United were constantly referred to as 'Sheffield' by Sky Sports.
Sheffield FC are the world's oldest football club having been founded all the way back in 1857. But despite 167 years of history, Sheffield FC find themselves being minimised by those looking to shorten the name of their Premier League neighbours.
With Sheffield Wednesday not being in the top division of European football, broadcasters, pundits and fans find themselves saying "Sheffield" when talking about Chris Wilder's side. Fed up with people, albeit unintentionally, over-writing their presence and proud history, Sheffield FC lashed out at Sky Sports' now deleted video.

In the build-up to the Blades' recent 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Sky Sports reporters and pundits called Wilder's side 'Sheffield' on multiple occasions. The Sheffield FC admin enjoy correcting people when the incorrect reference is made.
However, their patience wore thin when they came across the video on social media. Their page on X uploaded a tweet which said: “I know we have a laugh and a joke about Sheffield United being called Sheffield, but seriously it’s offensive to Sheffield as a whole.

"No way would you ever hear Manchester United or City being referred to as Manchester.” The video they retweeted and blasted has either been taken down by Sky Sports or those who look after Twitter.
After the video and their complaints did the rounds on social media, many other teams, who face similar issues, joined in with the condemnation. “It shows a complete lack of respect from Sky. Same for when they call Bristol Rovers/City ‘Bristol’," a native from Bristol said.
A person from Blackburn also said: “Agreed. Media often refer to Rovers as ‘Blackburn’ which is offensive to Blackburn as a whole given it completely disregards Blackburn Olympic and offends their fans too.”
Even neutrals became offended on their behalf, with one saying: "Noticed this a lot this season from pundits and even fans at times. Even though I have nothing to do with Sheffield as a city, it's really bothersome."
