Worrying Liel Abada claim cleared up as Celtic star’s 'sad' situation rumbles on but end game’s on
Reports in Israel claimed Abada was abused on the streets but Rodgers says he's heard nothing of the sort.
Brendan Rodgers has heard nothing to back up worrying reports in Israel about Liel Abada being abused on the streets of Glasgow - and he speaks with the winger every day.
Abada still isn't in the headspace to play for Celtic amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine while some sections of the Parkhead support have been vocal in backing the Palestinian cause. Rodgers admitted a move away may be necessary for Abada, and although he is back training, he still isn't in a position to play against Dundee on Wednesday night.
This week, reports emerged from Sport 5 in the player's homeland claiming he had been subject to personal abuse on the streets of Glasgow. But Rodgers has daily chats with the 22-year-old, and says he's heard nothing of the sort. “I’m not aware of that," Rodgers said when asked about the worrying reports. "I speak regularly with Liel. It’s sadly a situation which doesn’t put him in the right frame of mind to play. But that’s a day by day thing.
"He’s still training with the group, sadly not available for the games. We’ll treat him well and look after him well whilst he’s here.”
Other reports in Israel suggested Abada was considering ripping up his contract to leave but so far there has been no firm indication the situation has reached that point. Rodgers did, however, previously admit Abada could leave in the summer to take him out of the limelight, admitting "it is a possibility" when a potential exit was floated.
