RANGERS boss Philippe Clement didn't sugarcoat the news that January signing Oscar Cortes is likely to be out long term.

The former Lille star sustained a 'serious' muscle injury against Kilmarnock and the prognosis after the player was sent away for scans isn't good.

Manager Philippe Clement confirmed that club bosses are now pondering whether the Colombian needs an operation on the issue.

In other words, it's anyone's guess when he will be seen again - if indeed this season.

Clement said: "It's a strange one with the action he did to have an injury like that.

"We need to see what to do operation or not, also in contact with Lens about it."

The Belgian boss has been acutely aware of the selection issues imposed on him as he's carefully refreshed his squad in the fixture-heavy spells of the season.

First Todd Cantwell limped out against St Johnstone and was ruled out for four weeks - and two crucial matches against Hearts and Kilmarnock.

Meanwhile, Clement has urged Rangers fans NOT to leave the ground early to beat the crowds in order to help cheer his team to what could be a famous title.

He said: “Every second of help, helps. I hope people can stay longer because the players really want to show respect to everybody supporting them, that’s why they go around the stadium and they go in every corner.

“But I also know that people have their private lives and it’s not an easy thing with all the traffic and buses leaving, and people coming from all over Scotland and other countries to watch."
