‘You hear his name’… Alan Pardew says 61-year-old manager will be linked with Chelsea now

Chelsea are having a bad season… again. Things were dire for the Blues last campaign, and they have not improved this time around.

The Blues finished as low as 12th in the Premier League table last season. Chelsea are now 11th in the standings.

Mauricio Pochettino is a very good manager who led Tottenham Hotspur to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and also won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.

Much was expected of Pochettino when he was appointed the Chelsea head coach in the summer of 2023. The Blues also spent a lot of money and brought in a number of players.

Chelsea have been poor all season and failed to win this past weekend. The Blues played out a 2-2 draw with Brentford away from home in the Premier League.

As reported by The Mirror, the Chelsea fans at the away end were chanting for Pochettino to leave and Jose Mourinho to come back.

Alan Pardew comments on Chelsea and Jose Mourinho

Former Newcastle United and West Ham United manager Alan Pardew thinks that this is not the last time that Mourinho will be linked with a return to Chelsea.

The talkSPORT pundit thinks that the 61-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid boss is trying to find a managerial role following his departure from AS Roma in January.

Pardew said about Mourinho to Chelsea on talkSPORT (8:23 pm, March 3, 2024): “Well, it’s not surprising, let’s be honest. Poch has gone in there, he is an ex-Spurs manager, he has got a dysfunctional group, players in a way because it doesn’t look like he is trying to find a balance in there.

“It is not helping the odd knock here and there. Jackson is hit and miss, he misses a big chance, he looks poor, then suddenly he gets a great header, you know. And, it’s a bit like that Chelsea, what you are going to get.

“You can imagine, with Jose out of work and doing interviews, you know, at the moment, putting himself out there, I think for a new job obviously, his name is going to get mentioned. And, I don’t think that will be the first or last time you hear his name.”

My View: Chelsea should not bring back Jose Mourinho

In my opinion, Chelsea should not hire Jose Mourinho as their manager for the third time.

The 61-year-old, who wants to take charge of Bayern Munich, was successful in both his spells as the Chelsea boss. The Portuguese manager won the Premier League title twice in his first stint and won it once after he came back.

The Stamford Bridge faithful love Mourinho, but he is a manager who wants to win major trophies straightaway and needs a high calibre of players to do so.

Chelsea have some very good and promising young players, but they do not have a squad that can compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title right now.
