AFC Wimbledon midfielder Harry Pell has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA) after he was accused of kicking balls at MK Dons fans.

This happened before Wimbledon's 1-0 victory over their rivals at Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday. Videos on social media seem to show Pell kicking balls into the stand where the MK Dons supporters were sitting during the warm-up.

An MK Dons fans group said they planned to "make a formal complaint" about Pell's actions after the game. The club's supporters board also promised to investigate "the shocking treatment of supporters".

The FA has now formally charged Pell over the incident. A spokesperson said: "AFC Wimbledon's Harry Pell has been charged with misconduct following their EFL League Two game against Milton Keynes Dons.

"It's alleged that the midfielder acted in an improper manner in the warm-up before the game and he has until Monday 11 March to provide a response."

Pell, who didn't play in the game, hasn't yet spoken publicly about the incident, reports the Mirror. After the match, which saw Ronan Curtis score a dramatic late winner in stoppage time, Wimbledon's boss Johnnie Jackson told club media: "I can't put it into words. It's the highs and lows of football.

"Today is a reminder of why we love it, why we do it. Personally, that's the best feeling I've had in the game. It's not about me today, it's about Wimbledon. This football club has waited a long time for that moment.

"We were magnificent. The performance was outstanding on the pitch, in the stands. Behind the scenes, how hard everyone has worked knowing we had a big game, to win it like that, you couldn't write it or make it up.

After the match, MK Dons midfielder Alex Gilbey shared his thoughts with BBC Three Counties Radio: "I think after what happened last time (MK Dons beat Wimbledon 3-1 back in January), they knew they had to turn it into an ugly game of football.

"I think with the amount of ability and quality we've got in the changing room, we need to not get sucked into that. I know how much the fans are hurting because I'm hurting just as much. It's the one the lads want to win - we want to do it for the fans."
