Sebastian Hoeneß signs new contract at VfB Stuttgart
Sebastian Hoeneß has signed an extension to his contract at VfB Stuttgart, which will keep the former Bayern Munich reserve team coach at the MHP Arena until at least June 2027.
Having joined the club in April 2023, Hoeneß's original deal was due to run out in the summer of 2025 but his remarkable efforts in Stuttgart have now been rewarded with an additional two years added to his contract.
Hoeneß arrived at the club with VfB rooted to the bottom of the table and with just eight games remaining of the 2023/24 campaign. The 41-year-old, who also had a spell in charge of Hoffenheim, soon turned around their fortunes, keeping Stuttgart in the top-flight via last year's relegation/promotion playoffs.
A first full season under Hoeneß has seen the team flourish, with Suttgart third in the table after 24 matchdays and with a seven point cushion to fifth as they look to secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
“For me, VfB is a special club," said Hoeneß, who represented the club as a youth player. "Even as a little boy, I sat here in the stadium and cheered for VfB. I also wore the coat of arms on my chest for three years as a youth player around 25 years ago and became German champion with VfB U17. For me, VfB means emotion – something very special.
He added: “I'm pleased to have extended my contract with VfB early. Together we managed to lead VfB on the right path. Our goal must be to follow this path sustainably in order to permanently establish VfB in the top half of the table again. It was fun right from the start to work with this team and the coaching team as well as the entire staff and to experience the fantastic support of our fans."
