Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has backed Jurgen Klopp to return to Liverpool as manager within the next two years.

The Reds are preparing to say farewell to Klopp at the end of the current season after the German's shock decision to step away from his role was announced at the end of January. Klopp plans to take time away from the sport to be with his family for a prolonged period before taking on another challenge, which many believe could come in the form of a national team role.

Offering an alternative view on what could be in store for the 56-year-old, Yorke has shared the theory of the Reds' current boss making a surprise return to Anfield.

"In my opinion, no. I want to make a bold statement," stated the ex-United forward on beIN SPORTS. "I think he will return to Liverpool, maybe in a year or two years' time. I just have a real sneaky feeling that's what he will do."

Pushed further on why he believes this will be the case and whether this view was founded on possible information he may have received, Yorke added: "I'm not going to go as far as saying info, but I just feel when you look at the quality of managers that are out there... I don't think there are too many quality managers."

Less convinced this will be the case, former Liverpool Jason McAteer added: "My worry for that is he [Klopp] would have to get the band back together, and they're all going: Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, the sporting director. There's a lot he's going to have to do to come back."

Announcing his exit in January, Klopp said: "What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent. That’s not possible.

“My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t. I couldn’t for a second think about it. There’s no chance. This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here.

“There’s no chance to do that. But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around. I will find something else maybe to do. But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that’s not possible, I cannot do that and I don’t want to.”
