Daniel Sturridge has responded after fans took the mickey out of his odd Super Sunday outfit.

The former Premier League ace, 34, was on punditry duty at Anfield for Liverpool's clash with Manchester City yesterday (March 10) and rocked up wearing a black turtleneck and blazer combo that sent viewers into a tizz. The blazer featured an unorthodox fastening buckle that fans on social media likened to a "seatbelt", and Sturridge felt compelled to defend the ensemble the following day.

Taking to X, he wrote: "Me: I’m just gonna wear this black turtleneck with this simple black blazer. Then people can focus on what I have to say and won't have anything to say about my outfit. Internet: why does Sturridge have a seatbelt on!?"

In fairness, Sturridge was asking for ridicule after bringing attention to the buckle live on air. While hyping up what remains of this season's title race, the former striker joked: "It's going to be a rollercoaster ride. Buckle up like my blazer!"

Sturridge, who played for both Liverpool and Man City, has been a breath of fresh air on punditry this season, having impressed viewers with quality analysis and an unsurprising abundance of charisma.

Liverpool and Man City battled to a 1-1 draw in what was likely to be the final meeting between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola - on English soil at least. John Stones gave the visitors the lead in the first half, but Liverpool came roaring back after the break and equalised through Alexis Mac Allister, who converted from the penalty spot.

The tie met a controversial end when Jeremy Doku appeared to boot Mac Allister in the chest in the box with seconds left on the clock, but neither the referee, nor the VARs, awarded a foul. The result means Arsenal are the new league-leaders, though they're tied with Liverpool on 64 points, and City have 63.

Sturridge spent 13 years in the Premier League, turning out for City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bolton and West Brom. His best form came during the first few years of his Liverpool stint, where he formed a deadly partnership with Luis Suarez. He hung up his boots in 2022 having netted 120 career goals in 354 games.

He came to attention for his outfit choice last month when he appeared on Sky Sports with an oversized pocket. We can't wait to see what he comes back with next week.
