Daniel Sturridge has defended his eccentric Super Sunday outfit after getting mocked for a 'seatbelt' blazer.

The 34-year-old was on punditry duty at Anfield for Liverpool versus Manchester City on March 10, and decided to spice things up with a black turtleneck and blazer combo. However, it was his belt choice that got viewers talking.

It featured an unorthodox fastening buckle that fans on social media likened to something you'd fasten yourself into on a rollercoaster.

Taking to X, the former Premier League ace hit back at his trolls. "Me: I'm just gonna wear this black turtleneck with this simple black blazer. Then people can focus on what I have to say and won't have anything to say about my outfit. Internet: why does Sturridge have a seatbelt on!?"

In fairness to the critics, Sturridge probably brought it upon himself when he teased the outfit on air. He said: "It's going to be a rollercoaster ride. Buckle up like my blazer!" reports the Daily Star.

The former Chelsea man has gone down well with TV viewers in his punditry role, mixing quality analysis with charisma. Sturridge played in the Premier League for 13 years, playing for City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bolton and West Brom. His best performances were during his early years at Liverpool, where he and Luis Suarez made a formidable team. He retired in 2022 with 120 career goals in 354 games.
