Barry Ferguson issues 'red card all day' Hibs verdict after 'crazy' tackle on John Lundstram
The former Ibrox skipper is shocked that anybody would argue against any other decision bar a sending-off
Barry Ferguson has told Nathan Moriah-Welsh his tackle on John Lundstram was CRAZY - and it was a red card all day long.
Hibs were reduced to nine men in a heated Scottish Cup showdown with Rangers at Easter Road as Philippe Clement and his troops booked their semi-final ticket and return to Hampden thanks to goals from John Lundstram and Fabio Silva. The home side were left furious after losing two players in two minutes in the second half with Jordan Obita also sent for an early bath after two yellow cards by whistler Steven McLean.
Speaking post match in the capital, Nick Montgomery was less than pleased with the flashpoint decisions against his side. He was adamant his player should have got a yellow card at most and expressed his surprise that the referee wasn't sent to the VAR monitor pitch-side for a look at the incident. But Ferguson could not disagree more and says any real contact would have resulted in a season-ending injury for Lundstram. He also claims Moriah-Welsh knows himself there was only outcome after that 'rush of blood' moment.
Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson said: "It is a crazy challenge. It is a red card all day. The good thing about it is he never connected with Lundstram. If he did it could have been a season ending injury. For me, all day a red card. It was a rush of blood and I could see it when the ball broke and Lundstram took a heavy touch. There is no need to dive in like that with your two feet. Definitely a red card in my eyes."
He added: "He's just lucky he never connected. I don't see why anybody can have any arguments that it wasn't a red card. It was reckless and the boy knew himself. I know he was putting his hands up and saying 'oh I didn't touch him' - but he knew himself that it was a red card all day."
On booking a spot in the last four and his verdict on the win in Leith, he said: "Very good result after a tough game on Thursday night in Lisbon against Benfica. Like everybody I have seen Rangers play better but it was a typical cup tie, 100 mile per hour but overall a good professional performance and I felt Rangers deserved to go through."
