Takehiro Tomiyasu returned to Arsenal's matchday squad for the visit of FC Porto on Tuesday evening.

The Japanese defender had been absent for the last five matches with a calf injury. His last appearance came at the end of December in the 2-1 defeat at Fulham before he was called up fpr the Asian Cup.

Mikel Arteta opted to leave him on the bench during the midweek Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium and there is a chance he could feature against Manchester City at the end of the month.

Arteta will hope to see Gabriel Martinelli return from his spell on the sidelines ahead of important few weeks ahead. The Gunners are not in action until March 31 when they make the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Jurrien Timber on the other hand, is not expected to be ready for the crunch match but could return before the end of the season.

After booking a place into the quarter-final of the Champions League, all eyes will be on Friday's (March 15, 11am GMT) draw to confirm the outset for the rest of the competition, with Arsenal set to find out their quarter-final opponents.

With that said, football.london takes a look at the latest from the Gunners' treatment room.

Jurrien Timber

He continues to be involved in Arsenal's training after suffering an ACL injury. However, the club are yet to provide a clear return date.

Injury: Knee.

What Arteta has said: "There is a possibility but at the moment he is still very, very far from competing," he said when asked if we would see Timber this season on January 19. "That’s the reality of it.

"We’re hopeful that he can have an impact at the end of the season, if everything goes well, and it looks like there is a chance that that might happen but I think it’s too early to make that call."

Return date: Unknown.
