Mohammed Kudus 'turns into Maradona' capping off West Ham rout with solo stunner

West Ham cruised into the Europa League quarter-finals with a 5-0 win over Freiburg at the London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen, Aaron Cresswell and Mohammed Kudus all on target

Mohammed Kudus scored a Diego Maradona-esque solo stunner to cap off West Ham's 5-0 rout of Freiburg.

The Ghana international was the star of the show as the Premier League club booked their place into the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday (March 14). He scored an amazing goal after running 60 yards and beating the Freiburg goalie Noah Atubolu as well as curling in another beauty for his second goal.

Kudus, 23, was heavily praised by Hammers boss David Moyes who guided the club to their third consecutive European quarter-final appearance, The Mirror reports.

The Scotsman said: "It was a brilliant individual goal, a Roy of the Rovers type goal really" before speaking of the journey he's been on with West Ham as he added: "From where we've come from, a team avoiding relegation, it's a brilliant achievement.

"The club has moved on so much in the last few years. It's hard to point out how good it's been. And we want to make it better if we can."

Fans were left in shock due to the pure brilliance of Kudus' solo stunner with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing: "WHAT A GOAL! MOHAMMED KUDUS'S DIEGO MARADONA ESQUE!" while another added: "Mohammed Kudus channeling his inner Diego Maradona".

A third suggested the strike was award-worthy as they commented: "Sure to be a contender for the Puskas award". Kudus' double was the last two goals of the night where West Ham had already done the damage to their shocked German rivals, making it 11 home wins in Europe on the trot.

They opened the scoring when Lucas Paqueta snuck in to net from close range - and they looked dangerous all night. Jarrod Bowen's goal, which made it 2-1 on aggregate, was a classic example of Moyes' style - blending power and directness with a touch of magic.

Any worry that West Ham might get too comfortable with a one-goal lead vanished when Cresswell scored a third goal six minutes after half-time.

Bowen's cross from the right was only cleared as far as Cresswell on the edge of the penalty area. With plenty of space, he took a touch before shooting in off the post.
