Ajax star delivers X-rated reaction to Aston Villa defeat he 'cannot accept'

Goals from Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey, Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby saw Aston Villa through to the last-eight in Europe with a 4-0 victory over Ajax

Ajax star Devyne Rensch has opened up on the pain his teammates are feeling after Aston Villa swept them aside during their Europa Conference League meeting. After the first leg in Amsterdam finished goalless, Villa went goals galore in their last-16 return at Villa Park on Thursday night with a 4-0 win.

It was a result that booked their spot in the quarter-finals as the race for European silverware hots up. Before his injury scare, Ollie Watkins scored with Leon Bailey, Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby also on target.

Aside from pursuing Champions League qualification, Villa will have one eye on silverware under Unai Emery in an attempt to cap off what has been an impressive campaign. However, as far as Ajax are concerned, defeat in such a resounding fashion has underlined ongoing troubles for the struggling Eredivisie giants.

As quoted by PA after the match, Rensch said: "Yeah, it's s***. It's painful and we are used to winning for cups and competing and that's not going to happen.

"It's a real let down, it's a disappointment. It shouldn't be happening, but we have to move on."

The 21-year-old Netherlands U21s defender continued: "Being Ajax, we are always in the running for the top prizes. This season it's just not the case and it's very difficult to accept that."

Aside from the European exit, perennial challengers Ajax remain some way off the pace in the Eredivisie this term. Currently in fifth position, they trail table-topping PSV by a staggering 29 points with nine games to play.

Rensch has totted up 29 matches for Ajax this season. He pulled up at Villa Park with a late injury.
