Harvey Barnes left devastated after fresh injury blow costs him part in FA Cup adventure

Newcastle United forward Harvey Barnes will be forced to sit out of the Magpies' sixth round date with destiny at the Etihad Stadium

Harvey Barnes will use Newcastle United's sunshine trip to Dubai to get over a fresh injury during the international break.

The £40million buy from Leicester City saw his tally of games missed rise to 27 matches for the season with Barnes so far spending more time with the physios in the treatment room than on the field. Eddie Howe expects Barnes to be back in contention for the crunch battle for a European spot with West Ham at the end of the month.

Howe said: "He's desperate to do well for Newcastle. You saw his quality when he came on against Luton and scored instantly. He is a goalscorer.

"We've missed him when he's not been available. I know the qualities he has and I'm desperate for him to show that to everybody on a consistent basis.

"He is back on the grass already so we hope he can be back and have a positive impact towards the end of the season."

Howe has revealed that Barnes picked up his new injury, after being out for months with a toe problem, in the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The head coach said: "Harvey won't make the squad (for tomorrow) but we hope he'll be back for West Ham. He was very down after the Wolves game because he knew he'd just felt something in his hamstring which is going to take a period of time to get right."
