Montpellier HSC 2-5 Paris Saint-Germain LIVE: Champions produce second-half rampage to take commanding lead

A rampant Paris Saint Germain left the Stade de la Mosson with what was in the end an easy three points courtesy of a Kylian Mbappe hattrick, scoring six goals as they routed Montpellier.

The reigning champions, who look on course to secure their 12th league title, end a three-game winless streak in Ligue 1 and put 12 points between themselves and second-placed Brest.

PSG captured a two-goal lead through Vitinha and Mbappe only to slip into a state of carelessness that has become much too common this season, conceding two goals including a controversial penalty shortly before half-time.

Clearly incensed by the contentious penalty call, PSG completely dominated the second-half with a vicious level of authority.

Mbappe and Lee Kang-in score two wonder goals, with the former scoring twice to cap his hat-trick. It was then left to 21-year-old Nuno Mendes to slip into the box on the underlap and fire past a dishevelled Dimitry Bertaud, who had zero chance in the game's second period of stopping PSG's offence.

Four added minutes to go until this nightmare is over for Montpellier.

And there's the cherry on top of this dominant performance.

A perfectly weighted pass from Vitinha finds Mendes on the underlap and the left-back finishes superbly.

Hakimi races away on the counter flanked by Mbappe and Warren Zaïre-Emery, choosing the latter, whose subtle shot hits the post and rolls past an encroaching Mbappe.

A corner for the hosts after a rare chance in this second half for the hosts, with Donnarumma sending Savanier's shot behind.

Vitinha is dispossessed in Montpellier's final third but almost instantly presses and wins the ball back.

There's no way out for the hosts, with the Portuguese midfielder pulling all the strings tonight.

Vitinha is commanding the centre of the pitch as PSG are beginning to play one touch football and take complete control of the game.

That is surely the game put to bed already. Three goals in the first 20 minutes of this second half sees them take a 5-2 lead and likely leave this side of the French Riviera with three points in hand.

And that's his hattrick. He latches onto a beautifully lofted ball from Vitinha and rockets home to capture his third goal of the game.

Poor Bertaud has had no chance with any of Mbappe's finishes tonight, simply unstoppable.

The Parisians taken the ascendancy of this game with assertive force. Space in the midfield is suddenly opening up for them with ease and they're looking much more confident.
