‘Why not?’… Gilberto Silva says he would love Arsenal to sign £15m Aston Villa player

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, while Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are looking to finish in the top four.

Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League table with 64 points from 28 matches, level on points with Liverpool, who are second. Defending champions Manchester City are third with 63 points from 28 games.

Aston Villa are fourth. Under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, the Villans are aiming to finish in the UEFA Champions League places.

The Villans have picked up 56 points from 29 matches, three more than Tottenham Hotspur, who have played 28 games.

One of Villa’s best players this season has been Douglas Luiz. The Brazil international midfielder is a key figure in Emery’s team and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The former Manchester City man has scored nine goals and given five assists in 28 Premier League matches this season.

Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has been hugely impressed by his Brazilian compatriot, and he believes that a move to the Emirates Stadium would be good for the Gunners and Luiz, who cost Villa £15 million (Sky Sports) in transfer fees in 2019.

Arsenal urged to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa

Gilberto said about Luiz on CaughtOffSide: “I think he’ll be expensive because he’s in good form. I am just happy to see another Brazilian doing a great job in the Premier League.

“Any top club would want him right now, so why not Arsenal? I think it would be a great move for the club and for him as well.”

Arsenal keeping tabs on Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz has done well in the Premier League. The midfielder has progressed and developed over the years at Aston Villa.

And, I think that Luiz could still get better and add more facets to his game. After all, he is 25 now. His best years are ahead of him.

Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Brazil international midfielder. HITC reported earlier this month that the Gunners have Luiz on their list of potential transfer targets in the summer transfer window.

The potential problem that Arsenal could face in getting a deal for Luiz is that if Villa qualify for the UEFA Champions League, then they would not want to sell any of their best players.
