Sadio Mane has spoken out on Jurgen Klopp’s looming exit from Liverpool - and joked that he wants to hire his old manager.

Mane is a Reds legend, scoring 120 goals from 269 appearances and winning every major honour during his six years under Klopp at Anfield.

The Senegalese striker, who is now playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr after leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich in June 2022, became majority shareholder of fourth-tier French outfit Bourges Foot 18 last October. And he paid a recent visit to the club ahead of reporting for international duty with Senegal.

Speaking to the media during his visit, the 31-year-old paid tribute to Klopp ahead of the German’s Anfield exit at the end of the season, while also audaciously teasing that he would be interested in making his old boss the manager of Bourges one day.

“He said he was leaving Liverpool? Maybe he will come here (laughs),” Mane said at a welcome ceremony in the city hall of Bourges, as quoted by Foot Mercato. “He is someone who left his mark on world football, and personally, he contributed a lot to my progress.

“He is a great man, a living legend, who brought a lot, a lot to Liverpool. All the work he did there will, I think, be forever engraved in the memory of all the supporters.”

Klopp confirmed back in January that he would step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season after nine years. He has been linked with jobs at Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, but intends to enjoy a one-year sabbatical, at least, before considering a return to management.
