San Marino haven't won a match for 20 years – but they're finally favourites for victory
International minnow San Marino have a chance to end their 20-year drought without a win when they face another small fry in midweek with the rare honour of being favourites
Every dog has its day - and San Marino's may have arrived after almost 20 years.
That's the length of time that's passed since the microstate and fifth-smallest country in the world last recorded a victory in any capacity. It was back in April 2004 that La Serenissima beat Liechtenstein 1-0 to mark their first international win, but the wait for a second is still going on.
However, that could be poised to change after San Marino were tipped as rare favourites for Wednesday's friendly encounter with St. Kitts and Nevis. The nations will face off twice in the space of four days, meaning Roberto Cevoli's side should have two bites at the cherry in ending their double-decade malaise.

It's far from a sure thing considering the hosts are still at value odds of 13/10 for the midweek matchup. Meanwhile, their Caribbean guests are rated at 19/10 for the opening salvo, which is the same price offered for a draw in Serravalle.
St. Kitts and Nevis aren't to be underestimated, either, considering their players at least have experience of winning fixtures in their recent history.

The Sugar Boyz held on to beat Sint Maarten 3-2 in the CONCACAF Nations League back in October, while they previously went on a six-match unbeaten streak (three wins, three draws) between June 2022 and June 2023.
San Marino, on the other hand, have lost 11 games in a row in a drought that dates back to November 2022. Some among their squad weren't even born when the team recorded their sole win to date, but that cycle could come to a close this week.
The nation has scored in three consecutive games for the first time in its history and will look to make that four in a row against Austin Huggins' men. San Marino thought they were onto a result against Denmark in October before Yussuf Poulsen's decider condemned them to a 2-1 home defeat.
Cevoli & Co. aren't accustomed to the favourites tag but will look to embrace the opportunity come Wednesday. And while St. Kitts and Nevis may have the advantage of experience in that sector, the hosts will hold onto the notion that records are there to be broken - some day.
