Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is backed at 13/8 to make Gareth Southgate's England squad for this summer's European Championships. The forward has been called into the senior squad for the first time for last night's friendly with Brazil and the game with Belgium next week.

Gordon has been on of United's most consistent performers this season, although there is plenty of talent in the wide position available to Southgate. He is one of several Newcastle players hoping to make it into the England squad for Euro 24, with Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and potentially Callum Wilson in the mix.

That trio all went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, although while Trippier is likely to be included in the squad for Germany, Pope and Wilson's injury issues this season could mean they miss out. Pope faces a battle to be picked ahead of Aaron Ramsdale or Sam Johnstone to challenge Jordan Pickford in the squad.

Wilson has seen the likes of Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins move ahead of him in the pecking order, and his limited gametime this season - he is currently ruled out with injury - means he could well miss out unless he is able to finish the season in sensational goalscoring form.

The bookies have made their predictions over who will be on the plan to Germany, with England facing Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia in Group C. Betfair make Pope evens to be included, with Gordon a slight outsider in the forward list at 13/8. Meanwhile Trippier is expected to be there, with odds of 2/9 suggesting he is almost a shoo-in.

Newcastle will be in Australia when the initial squad is announced in late May, with Southgate then narrowing down the field before the tournament. England's first game is against Serbia on June 20.
