Neil Warnock's Aberdeen disaster blasted by pundit who can't even bring himself to say his name
Warnock's spell as interim manager yielded just two wins in eight matches in all competitions.
Football pundit and die-hard Aberdeen supporter Graham Hunter admits he was "brutally upset" that Neil Warnock was given the job at Pittodrie and says he was overjoyed when the veteran manager's short stint came to an end.
In the wake of Barry Robson's dismissal at the end of January, 75-year-old Warnock landed the job on an interim basis while Aberdeen chief Dave Cormack and the rest of the board started their search for a long-term appointment going into. However, Warnock's spell in the Granite City proved to be a difficult one, failing to win in any of his six league matches as the Dons slumped to within three points of the relegation play-off zone.
The former English Premier League gaffer then announced his shock resignation just minutes after a 3-1 victory against Kilmarnock secured Aberdeen's place in the last four of the Scottish Cup, with first team coach Peter Leven given the reins until a permanent manager is found.
The club had hoped to have a new man in place before the visit of Ross County to Pittodrie on Saturday, but chief executive Alan Burrows revealed earlier today that the process of appointing a new manager is still ongoing. Spanish football expert and Aberdeen-daft Hunter says he has full confidence in the club's hierarchy to make the right choice, despite their dismal track record of hiring and firing managers in the last three years.
He told Sky Sports News: "I was absolutely brutally upset that Neil Warnock had anything to do with our glorious club and I was delighted when he left. If Aberdeen are taking their time to find the right appointment, having gone through a series of managers from Stephen Glass, Jim Goodwin, Barry Robson and the other gentlemen who I don't particularly want to name again, I fully back that.
"I fully trust the coaches in interim control at the moment. We have got a team stocked with good footballers who can shake themselves down and show their quality by knocking Celtic out of the cup to qualify for the final and move up into the top six. It's as simple as that."
But he has faith in the chairman to get the next one right and said: "I adore the club and have trust in Dave Cormack. It's clearly embarrassing that Aberdeen are in a bad league position at the moment where they are fighting to get out of the bottom six.
"This has come in a season where Aberdeen have already reached one cup final, are in the semi finals of the Scottish Cup and played really daring football in Europe where they scored 12 times. But yet they are looking over their shoulders at the bottom part of the table."
