BBC Sport's Emma Jones jokes 'any excuse' after calling co-host Robbie Savage 'w***er'
Emma Jones jokingly called Robbie Savage a w***er during a podcast – but the former Wales and Blackburn midfielder was able to see the funny side
Emma Jones displayed razor-sharp wit as she jokingly called Robbie Savage a w***er during a podcast.
The popular BBC Sport presenter and former Wales international teamed up for the On Another Planet podcast ahead of the Euro 2024 play-off against Poland this week. They were joined by a Polish fan, who was asked by Savage to send a message of support to his country in his native tongue.
The supporter promptly issued a rallying cry to Robert Lewandowski and Co in Polish. But before Savage could respond, Jones nipped in to quip: “He just said Robbie Savage is a w***er!”

Savage saw the funny side, bursting into laughter along with the Poland fan. Jones shared a clip of the jovial taunt on Instagram and captioned it: “Any excuse to call Robbie Savage a w***er [laughing face emoji].”
Savage wasn’t laughing at the end of the night though as Wales were beaten on penalties after a goalless draw in Cardiff. It means the Welsh will be missing from the European Championship for the first time since 2012.

They memorably reached the semi-finals in 2016 and the second round at the delayed Euro 2020. Despite the defeat, Rob Page will remain as manager going into the World Cup qualifying, which begins later this year.
“The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract,” said Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams. “Rob is the manager. His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work.”
Page took over from Ryan Giggs in November 2020, first on an interim basis, and led Wales at the Euros the following summer. He was appointed permanent manager after Wales’ World Cup play-off final victory over Ukraine in June 2022.
