Adam Lallana says he's 'desperate' for Liverpool to win league – before playing them
Adam Lallana was perhaps too honest as he gave his thoughts about the title race ahead of Brighton playing his former side of six years Liverpool
Adam Lallana raised eyebrows by admitting he's "desperate" for Liverpool to win the title before facing them for Brighton.
The former Reds midfielder, 35, was named on the Seagulls bench as he returned to Anfield - where he helped them win the Champions League and Premier League during his six years on Merseyside.
Before heading out to warm up in familiar surroundings, Lallana spoke to Sky Sports about being back. "It's absolutely amazing coming home, I love coming back here," he said.

"And I do call it home. Great fond memories here and I'm used to playing here. We've picked up a good few results in the last few years. The title race is really heating up. Of course I'm desperate for Liverpool to win the league and go far in the other competitions.
"I still think it's possible if they can maybe lose one more game and that's what I'm aiming for today unfortunately. We've got our own fight this season and we want to make Europe again."

Despite Lallana adding he was hoping for a Brighton victory today, fans couldn't believe his initial admission. One argued: "Strange interview to give when you’re about to play against them."
"I hope he won't be playing for Brighton today because this right here is crazy," commented a second, while a third exclaimed: "Crying how can you say this an hour before kick off."
A fourth reacted: "Hang on now, this isn’t a retired player. This guy is on the bench for Brighton today. Surely that’s a breach of contract?!" And a fifth commented: "Bet this goes down well with his current employers."
Lallana joined Brighton in the 2020 summer transfer window on a free transfer. He will make his 100th appearance for the club if brought on against Liverpool.
