Neil Warnock swipes at Aberdeen FC next boss search as he slaps down Willie Miller for 'chip on his shoulder'

The veteran boss left his interim role at Pittodrie without winning a Scottish Premiership game.

Former Aberdeen boss Neil Warnock has criticised the club for looking to bring in a manager from abroad.

And the veteran manager attempted to take on his critics from his ill-fated spell in the Scottish Premiership as he accused Willie Miller and other ex-players of having "big chips on their shoulders". The Englishman stepped into the Pittodrie hot seat on an interim basis after Barry Robson was sacked at the end of January - but having failed to win any of his six league matches at the helm the 75-year-old walked away after guiding the Dons to the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Dave Cormack and the Pittodrie board are still searching for their next permanent boss having been assisted in their search by German football consultancy group BPTC. Aberdeen appear to be focussing their search outwith Scotland - with Elfsborg boss Jimmy Thelin remaining on the agenda - and Warnock reckons that could be a mistake.

Speaking to talkSPORT: "Aberdeen have gone all data now. They are looking to bring them in from abroad on data, which I’m not sure about that. I look at the league and I thought it was a bit closer but the those two (Celtic and Rangers) are miles ahead financially."

He then went on to take a pot shot at Scottish football and the use of VAR, adding: "And I had to laugh at the VAR. We have a go down here but VAR in Scotland... you had to take a cup of coffee to sit down and wait while they decided what they are doing. It was unbelievable. I mean, they have got to change it. They will change it."

And his critics were next on the agenda with Dons' legend Miller being singled out: "The ex-players - Willie Miller and one or two of the others up there - the things they said...they obviously have big chips on their shoulders over how they should have done. It is not easy up there."

The experienced boss was then pressed on Bojan Miovski - with Warnock declaring Aberdeen could sell in the summer and tipping him to impress at Rangers or Celtic. He said: "I think they possibly will sell him in the summer. I think he would fit in with the top two as well.

"He did about 12k running when we played Rangers. He worked his socks off and scored a goal. He is a good finisher. I think it has done him the world of good going to Aberdeen because it's a good club."
