Michael Stewart responds to Roy Keane pub team jibe as Man Utd tale sends 'bedwetters' into overdrive
The BBC Sportsound pundit had his say on the viral video that saw his former Old Trafford teammate take aim.
Michael Stewart has responded to Roy Keane after the Manchester United legend aimed a jibe at his former Old Trafford colleague.
The former Celtic midfielder was speaking on The Overlap podcast with Rio Ferdinand and the likes of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott and Ian Wright as they covered a range of topics. Ferdinand brought up a moment that involved Keane and BBC Sportsound pundit Stewart during his time at the Red Devils with the clip going viral.
Ferdinand told how he heard Keane roasting Stewart ahead of a training session. He's never been shy to express his vocal side both as a player, pundit or manager and Rio gave an insight into what his was like behind the scenes as a player. As part of the story, Keane aimed a joke at Stewart over his career path, telling him he'd end up at a pub team if he continued the way he was insisting he was RIGHT about how things would pan out.
Going back and forward with Ferdinand, the former England star said: "I am not saying he was a timid kid. He is quite an open speaking guy now. I don't know what triggered you but I came down the corridor and I could hear you saying "You will never make it you. You will never make it. You will be playing for a pub team in a couple of years if you carry on the way you are."
Keane's final statement in the debate was: "I was right. He ended up at Hibs and Hearts. [Joking with laughter]. That's who he played for. But no...it was just to motivate him."
Asked by host Kenny MacIntyre about the video, Stewart initially played dumb to it as he told Sportsound listeners: "What clip? What are you talking about..it was funny. It was a very, very funny clip I have got to say. A good laugh, a joke."
He added: "It would have been a busy night for the bed-wetter's who would have had their nappies on at that. It was a joke and a good laugh. I am pretty sure there is a lot of folk who got a wee bit excited about it, Kenny included."
