Megan Campbell's ridiculously impressive long throw led to comparisons to Stoke City icon Rory Delap.

The Republic Of Ireland women's international was representing her country in Tuesday's (April 9) Euro 2025 qualifying clash against rivals England.

During the game, the defender stole the limelight thanks to her spectacular long throw that sent shockwaves across social media. The 30-year-old was several yards ahead of the centre circle when she launched a rocket of a throw-in into England's penalty area.

It provided plenty of chaos in Sarina Wiegman's defence and while the Lionesses were able to clear their lines, it didn't stop social media from going nuts about the Rory Delap-esque throw that travelled a tremendous 38 metres.

The comparison to the Stoke legend was made on X (formerly Twitter) as the ex-Manchester City and Liverpool star was the star of the show on the internet, entering the history books of the greatest throw-in talents in football.

One fan on the social media platform joked: "Tony Pulis’ favourite women’s player." Another branded Campbell as: "The female Rory Delap." While a third wrote: "However far you think this ball’s getting thrown, I promise you it’s longer."

And a fourth commented: "Saw these in person at Ashton Gate, and yeah, that’s the longest throw I’ve seen watching in a stadium."

Unfortunately for Campbell, her chaotic throw-ins weren't enough to grab a result for Ireland, who fell 2-0 to England thanks to goals from Lauren James and Alex Greenwood.

Her throw-ins were discussed by Wiegman following the game who called them "spectacular". The German said: "They made it a real fight by putting players up front and the throw-ins, which were spectacular.

"We had to really fight in one-v-ones in 18-yard box, it’s a lesson for us, if we win the ball we really want to keep the ball and play out of the press and make our own momentum again. That’s what we struggled with a bit."
