Ryan Reynolds ‘crying tears of joy’ as he pens emotional reaction to Wrexham’s promotion
Wrexham spectacularly achieved back-to-back promotions with a huge 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers in League Two, leaving Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds emotional
Ryan Reynolds cried “tears of joy” after guiding Wrexham to back-to-back promotions.
The Wrexham co-owner watched from afar as his club clinched promotion to League One with the 6-0 demolition of Forest Green Rovers at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. Club hero Paul Mullin netted a brace, while Elliot Lee, Jack Marriott, Ryan Barnett and a Ryan Inniss own goal handed the Red Dragons a memorable triumph.
It marked Wrexham’s second successive promotion for the first time in their 159-year history, having achieved the same feat last season in the National League. And they did so in style with two games left to spare.

Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.
That prompted the Welsh side’s Hollywood actor owner Reynolds to take to social media to pen an emotional message, admitting he cried while watching the game.
The Deadpool star wrote on X: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney. Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime.
Reynolds added: "Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives," before adding a Welsh flag emoji.
Co-owner McElhenney, the star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, watched the action unfold from his Los Angeles home. He had difficulty summing up his emotions at full-time, tweeting: "No words," along with a red heart.
Last year, both Reynolds and McElhenney were present at the Racecourse Ground for their promotion to League Two. They celebrated emphatically in the stands as fans spilled onto the pitch.
Wrexham will now turn their attention to clinching the League Two title. They still have to play Crewe Alexandra and Stockport, who are currently four points above them.
