Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has revealed he would back Dean Henderson's campaign for a place in England's Euro 2024 squad.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper was forced out of Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 plans with a hip injury, and joined the Eagles last summer after a tumultuous spell at Manchester United, during which he claimed the club broke a promise to anoint him as their number one.

Henderson sat out the beginning of the current season with a thigh issue before making his league debut for Palace away at Manchester City in December, and battled Sam Johnstone for starts until the Eagles' first choice sustained a shoulder injury on England duty last month that requires surgery, looking likely to render him unavailable for this summer's Euros.

Asked if Henderson was deserving of the opportunity to replace his club-mate and secure a place on the plane to Germany, Glasner said: "I don't know what English goalkeepers could play for the national team, but yes, of course, with his performance he would deserve playing in [any] national team all over the world.

"But I don't give any advice to any international coach, because Gareth Southgate knows all the other goalkeepers better than I do, but I'm really pleased with the performance in the last weeks, because also when you see his personal situation, an injury, on the bench, starting, and right before we arrived [after Glasner's February appointment] he was on the bench again."

Henderson impressed former Palace boss Roy Hodgson when Johnstone went down with a calf injury in December, and remained Hodgson's man for four matches even after Johnstone re-joined the squad in January.

It was Johnstone, however, that got the start on what turned out to be perhaps the most dramatic day of the Eagles' season, when the club announced hours before their 1-1 draw at Everton first that Hodgson was stepping down, then that Glasner who was in attendance had been appointed to take his place.

Glasner was pleased by what he saw from Johnstone that day, and ahead of this Sunday's Premier League meeting with West Ham, said: "I talked to Sam and [Henderson], and I said Sam had an excellent game at Everton, and I don't want to make a change again.

"He accepted it and worked really hard, and then the team needed him and he was ready. This is the best you can do as a player. So I think, yes, he will deserve it, but no advice to the England manager."

Henderson has made 14 appearances for Palace across all competitions this season, with three clean sheets including last weekend's 1-0 upset at Liverpool. He spent his final season on Manchester United books on loan to Nottingham Forest, and was openly critical of what he branded as the Red Devils' "criminal" decision to bench him in favour of David de Gea for the 2021/22 season.

Asked if he deserved to join Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale who replaced him on the Euro 2020 squad in Germany, Henderson recently told reporters: "Why not? When I was fit in the past, I've always been in the England set-up. You don't become a bad keeper overnight.

"Sometimes you need a block of work to get back to your best. Obviously, I've got a block of work in there now, and I'm starting to get back to my best."
