Former Manchester United and Manchester City star Carlos Tevez has been rushed to hospital after experiencing chest pains.

The 40-year-old, who is one of only 14 players to have turned out for both top-tier Manchester teams, spent the night in a clinic in the affluent Buenos Aires district of San Isidro after seeking medical attention.

He is set to undergo further tests today at another nearby hospital. Argentinian top-flight team Independiente, which the retired striker and Argentina international now manages, confirmed his hospital admission overnight.

They stated that the initial results were "satisfactory." Local reports suggest that stress may be the cause of the issues. Tevez has not yet made any official statement, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In an overnight statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Independiente initially denied that the father-of-three had been hospitalised, but later confirmed: "Our coach, Carlos Tevez, went to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro with chest pain.

"They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up."

In a follow-up message, the club added: "Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed." It remains unclear whether he will be able to attend a club training session scheduled for later today (April 24).

The Finochietto Hospital in Buenos Aires is where Tevez is scheduled for further medical examinations. It's known that ex-West Ham striker Tevez has a history of high blood pressure and frequently undergoes health checks.

Earlier this month, he sparked rumours about his future as the coach of Independiente when he postponed a press conference following the team's cup competition exit.

In February, Wayne Rooney named Tevez as his favourite team-mate throughout his football career. The duo played together from 2007 to 2009 before Tevez made a controversial move to United's city rivals, Manchester City.

During Tevez's tenure at United, the club clinched the Premier League title twice, along with the Champions League in 2008 and the League Cup in 2009.
