Buckie Thistle have confirmed they are exploring the option to take both the SPFL and the SFA to an arbitration after being told they are not eligible to take part in the promotion play-off.

Despite clinching the Highland League title on the final day of the season, the Victoria Park side were then informed they would not be allowed to face Lowland League champions East Kilbride in the in the play-off semi-final because they did not comply with the criteria to be granted a SFA Bronze Licence, which is needed for clubs in the SPFL - with East Kilbride progressing directly to the play-off final against the side that finishes bottom of League Two.

In a joint statement, SPFL and SFA bosses insisted they had given Buckie adequate time to try to meet the requirements, and claimed they had informed the Highland League club of the situation several times, only to not get a response. However, seething Buckie chiefs hit back stating they were aware of the requirements needed to try to obtain the license and that they had been given an exemption for three items related to the criteria - 3 items - floodlights, safety officer as well as diversity and inclusion.

The club also stated that they have been given a deferral until May 15 to pass the remaining item on the list which relates to medical concerns. And in an update to supporters on their Facebook page, the Jags have revealed their intention to take the case to a arbitration.

It read: "Buckie Thistle Football Club would like to issue the following addition to last night's statement on the SPFL Pyramid Play-offs. The club is endeavouring to get to the bottom of the decision to remove us from this weekend's play-off semi final against East Kilbride FC.

"Club officials attended meetings and had discussions with both the SPFL and SFA on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, but no indication was given at any point that Saturday's fixture was in doubt. Attached is a screenshot from the Decision Note issued by the SFA, which clearly states a decision on the Bronze Licence is deferred until the 15th of May.

"Buckie Thistle were awarded derogations on 3 of the items mentioned, and given until 15th May to resolve the Medical items. After further discussions with the SFA this morning, we are now looking into the possibility of taking this to Arbitration, as per Article 99 of the SFA handbook. Further updates will be provided in due course."
