Pierre Hojbjerg scores 'beautiful header' in wrong goal for Arsenal as Spurs fans fume

Arsenal claimed an early lead against Tottenham Hotspur thanks to an own goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg that leaves the Gunners four points clear at the top of the Premier League

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg put the ball in the back of the net in the North London derby - but for Arsenal.


Tottenham are hosting their rivals in a huge clash on Sunday (April 28) where a win for the Gunners would see them go four points clear at the top of the Premier League.


Despite the early stages of the game being quite evenly-matched, it was Mikel Arteta's side that opened the scoring thanks to the Danish international.

With Bukayo Saka's corner entering dangerous territory in Spurs' box, it was Hojbjerg that got the last touch of the ball as it blasted past Guglielmo Vicario in a horrendous own goal.

Fans on social media certainly saw the funny side of it with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing: "Lovely finish that from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, though" while another called the gaffe from the midfielder a "beautiful header".

It's a third time in the last three North London derbies that Bukayo Saka has assisted an own goal scored by a Tottenham player. In their return fixture in September, the England international claimed the assist for Cristian Romero's own goal as well as Hugo Lloris' blunder last season.

Spurs thought they had equalised minutes later through Mickey van de Ven's striker-esque finish past David Raya but the Dutchman was adjudged to have been offside as the goal was chalked off for the home side.

It was a whirlwind of emotions for Spurs fans' who in a span of a few minutes believed they'd levelled the scoring to going 2-0 as Bukayo Saka's clinical strike past Vicario minutes after Van de Ven's disallowed goal doubled the scoreline.

The horror first-half for Ange Postecoglou was once again compounded as Arsenal's set-piece dominance came to fruition for the second time as Declan Rice's corner was finished by Kai Havertz's header to earn the Gunners a comfortable 3-0 lead.
