Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is reportedly considering a move away from the club this summer and is eyeing a return to London after nine years at Anfield.

A long-serving Liverpool defender is reportedly open to exploring a move away from Anfield this summer alongside Jurgen Klopp.

Since the inspirational Reds boss shocked the footballing landscape in January by announcing that he would step down this summer, question marks have been hanging over the heads of some of his stalwarts.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's situations have been hot-button topics, as both key figures are out of contract in 2025 and have been tipped to follow Klopp out of the Anfield exit door.

However, the pair are expected to stay put on Merseyside to be part of the rebuild under Arne Slot, suggestions that were strengthened by their inclusion in pictures for the launch for the 2024-25 home kit.

The same cannot definitively be said for Joe Gomez, though, as the Anfield Watch claims that the 26-year-old is considering his future and is keeping his eyes peeled for opportunities elsewhere.

Gomez 'wants Liverpool to listen to offers'

Gomez was just 18 years old when he arrived at Anfield from Charlton Athletic for a mere £4.2m in the summer of 2015, since when he has become a mainstay in Klopp's squad with 222 appearances.

The versatile defender - who has played all across the backline for the Reds - has set up nine goals in that time, and while he has never scored for the Merseyside giants, it has not been for a lack of trying.

Gomez may still be waiting to open his Liverpool account, but he has won eight major honours at Anfield in the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, Community Shield (two).

With 49 appearances to his name this season, Gomez has played an integral role for the Premier League title-chasing Reds, in particular impressing at left-back during the absences of Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas through injury.

However, with most of Liverpool's first-choice defenders now fit again, the England international is back on the fringes of Klopp's team and apparently wants the club to listen to any appropriate bids that arrive.

While Gomez is supposedly not trying to force his way out of Liverpool, who still have him under contract until the summer of 2027, he is ready to take on a new challenge and hopes to return to London if he does call time on his Anfield journey.

The report adds that his contract situation will not inhibit his chances of a move either, as Liverpool will not stand in his way of a transfer and would be receptive to bids of around £22m.

After last year's midfield rebuild, the Reds are planning for a defensive overhaul in the summer window, where Joel Matip is also set to embark on pastures new when his contract expires.

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips do not appear to be in Liverpool's long-term plans either, while the forgotten Sepp van den Berg has already admitted that he may have to seek an exit for the sake of his career.

Liverpool occupy third place in the Premier League table and could officially be out of the title race if they lose to Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's Anfield showdown.
