Scottish Premiership side relegated to the Championship as six-year stint in the top flight comes to an end

LIVINGSTON have been relegated from the Scottish Premiership.
Their fate was confirmed following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Motherwell at Fir Park.
The Lions have been a fixture in the top flight for the last six seasons and have often outperformed their budget.
Under David Martindale and even Gary Holt before him, Livingston have been known for being difficult to break down.
They were never prolific but where before their stubbornness in defence would bail them out, this season has been a different story.
Livingston have conceded more goals than anyone else this year, shipping 63 goals so far.

Their 24 goals scored is joint-poorest in the division, equal with St Johnstone.
Livingston, in their current guise, have had something of a rollercoaster existence.
Meadowbank Thistle relocated form Edinburgh to West Lothian in 1995 and changed their name to Livingston.
They were crowned Third Division champions in their first season and within six years they had earned promotion to the top flight.

The club even qualified for the Uefa Cup and won the League Cup but were sent plummeting back down to earth within a couple of seasons when they went into administration in 2004 and were eventually relegated in 2006.
Livingston were beset by financial problems again and went into administration for a second time in 2009 and were demoted to the Third Division.
The club surged back up through the leagues to the second tier before suffering relegation to League One in 2016, making the decision to stay full-time and retain David Hopkin as manager.
The former Crystal Palace midfielder guided the club to back-to-back promotions before he was succeeded by Holt, who led them to a seventh-placed finished.
Under Martindale, who took over in 2020, they finished seventh, 13th and seventh before this season.
