Luton on the brink after West Ham's fightback

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany vowed that his team will look for an immediate return to the Premier League after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur confirmed their relegation after only one season back in the top flight.

The Clarets went into action knowing that they needed to win and rely on favourable results elsewhere to take the relegation battle to the final day.

Kompany's side got off to a dream start when Jacob Bruun Larsen fired Burnley ahead after 25 minutes, but Pedro Porro equalised for Spurs seven minutes later, before Micky van de Ven's late goal confirmed their demotion.

"In my mind Burnley will be in the Premier League again," Kompany told BBC Sport. "Today the Premier League is over, but tomorrow we start Day 1 of doing everything we can to get back to the Premier League.

"The game [against Spurs] has gone a bit like others have gone for us this season. We created chances, but it's the one where we missed the final pass.

"I'm not here sulking and feeling sorry for us, but if you take every game, every season as a learning experience, this is step we need to get into our game."

Luton's relegation from the Premier League looms

Another Premier League chapter also seems to be ending as Luton Town suffered a 3-1 loss at West Ham United. This result means it will take a monumental effort for the Hatters to remain in the Premier League.

Albert Sambi Lokonga gave Luton the lead, before David Moyes' side made sure to send off their departing manager in fine fashion in his final home match with three unanswered goals.

"I'm an emotional person and walking over to our supporters and seeing their reaction brought me to tears," said Rob Edwards. "I feel devastated, I didn't want to let anyone down and I feel responsible. I thanked the players and staff, they've given me the best 18 months of my life.

"We brought a certain spirit, the underdog factor and we changed opinions of ourselves as we went. What makes me proud is how much we have improved in the hardest league in the world.

'We will be back'

"We have some 'what ifs' - but I'm not making excuses. Every team who goes down will have them. We have fallen short, but we have to learn and keep improving.

"I am learning all the time and there is more I don't know than I do know. I've loved going up against the best, and it makes me hungry to be here again. The fire is burning."
