But claim that the Red Devils haven't approached him about signing a new contract, and he is currently set to leave in the coming months.

The 46-year-old is said to have ambitions of returning to management, previously gaining experience at Cape Town City and AmaZulu in his homeland, South Africa.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United's new-look sporting structure reportedly haven't yet decided on Ten Hag's future to prevent any distractions ahead of the daunting test against City.

However, the Dutchman is expected to receive his marching orders once the game is out of the way, even if he guides the club to their 13th FA Cup with a shock triumph.

Mauricio Pochettino has joined the pool of coaches linked with replacing Ten Hag after his Chelsea exit, which also includes Kieran McKenna, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

McCarthy looks primed to be on his way out regardless of who is in the dugout next season.
