Nicolo Zaniolo is unsure where his future lies this summer but the Aston Villa midfielder confessed that he does miss Italy.

The Italian international signed for Villa on a loan deal last summer from Galatasaray and have an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

Reports in Italy claimed that he is wanted by several Italian clubs this summer including Fiorentina although Zaniolo is currently in rehab after suffering a foot injury in the 3-3 draw against Liverpool.

In an interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport, Zaniolo was asked about his future and said: "I don’t know how much chance there is of me coming back to play in Italy.

“I read about Fiorentina’s interest and I’m pleased, but it’s very early to know where I’ll be playing from July. The truth is that I miss Italy but today everything is possible, in Italy or abroad.”

Zaniolo will miss Euro 2024 as a result of his injury that he suffered against Liverpool as Italy look to retain their crown and he added: "The morale is a bit low because I believed in it, I wanted to be there at all costs. We all know how the European Championship [last edition] I missed out on because of the ACL turned out."

Confirming his injury, Unai Emery said: "Zaniolo broke his metatarsal and it is bad news. He was a doubt, but he did the effort to play on Monday because he had pain in his back after the match we played against Lille.

"He did the effort because we tried to use every players. He played 10 minutes and he broke his metatarsal and he will be out of the Euros. It is very sad for him. At the beginning of the season it will be difficult for him."
